WEEK 1 - CLARIFICATION OF POINTS

Utzon house, scale - Professor Xing has confirmed that if you read the text in the recommended reference books you should be able to uncover the square module dimension and hence the scale of the drawings in the book.

Venturi house, scale - Again, there should be a lot of large drawings in the reference books. You may have to convert imperial measurements to metric.

Utzon house, section cuts for the model - You are welcome to build the model with a plan section cut or a cross sectional cut, as long as you can argue well your case for your decision. It has been suggested however that it may be more effective in this case to provide 2 sectional cuts through different parts of the building, showing the house's different relationship with the outside.

Bawa house, section cuts for the model - The plan cut in this case may be more effective, though the longitudinal section cut shows the important role of the roof, which is very significant in this house. Again, you are expected to provide a compelling argument for your decision.

Muller house, number of poche plans required - There are many plans as this is the so called 'Raumplan'. One plan cut through the marble room is required, which also shows the dining room. However, it is suggested that you do one more cut at a different level. Of course, one or two good sections are essential in this case.

I hope that it will be an exciting and enriching experience for you all.

It is expected that you will come Wednesday's studio with preliminary sketches/ research of your allocated villa for pin up and discussion.

We will discuss each of the villas as a group.
